Who we are
The app is provided by Watapana Dance Company (organizer of Watapana Weekend), Arnhem, the Netherlands. For privacy matters we are the "data controller."

The short version
- No account, no login. No email or password needed.
- Your name stays on your phone. Your optional first name is only used to greet you and never leaves your device.
- Your city, dance style and experience are shared anonymously and used with workshop ratings to plan better workshops. Linked to a random ID, never to your name.
- Ratings and saved workshops are anonymous too — linked only to that random ID.
- We don't sell your data and show no third-party ads.
- You can erase what's on your phone by deleting the app.

We do not collect your email, phone number, contacts, photos, precise location, or payment information, and we added no advertising or behavioural analytics SDKs.
Why we use this data
- To run the app for you — show your schedule, saved items, ratings, and send your reminders.
- To improve the festival and plan better workshops — seeing anonymously which workshops are most saved, and how they're rated by audience (e.g. by dance style, experience level, or city). Pseudonymous: linked to a random ID, not your name.
- To send announcements — only if you allow notifications, which you can turn off anytime.
Third-party services
- Google Firebase (Authentication, Firestore, Cloud Messaging) stores the anonymous data above and may process limited technical data such as IP address and device type. See Google's privacy policy.
- Maps. Tapping "Open in Maps" opens Google or Apple Maps, under their terms.
- Content updates (schedule, eat & drink, treats) are a one-way download from watapanaweekend.com; no personal data is sent.
Push notifications
If you allow notifications, we use Firebase Cloud Messaging to send festival announcements to everyone with the app. Reminders for workshops you saved are generated on your device. You can disable notifications anytime in your device settings.
How long we keep data & deleting it
On your device: until you delete it in the app or uninstall.
Anonymous data in our database: kept to understand and improve the festival, and deleted within a reasonable period after the event (at the latest 12 months after). Because it isn't linked to your identity, it can't be individually identified for extraction or deletion on request, but email us and we'll help where technically possible.
Children
The app is for festival attendees and a general audience. It does not knowingly collect personal data from children and asks for no identifying information.
Your rights (EU/GDPR)
You have the right to access, correct, erase, object to or restrict processing, and to data portability. Because your identifiable profile stays only on your device and everything sent to our database is anonymous, you can exercise most of these directly on your phone. For anything else, contact info@watapanaweekend.com. You may also complain to the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens).
Changes to this policy
If we change how the app handles data, we'll update this page and the effective date.
